Why Learn With Skydive Virginia?
Request For E-Brochure - More Information

Introduction

In this section of our web site you will learn more about Skydive Virginia!, Inc.'s training programs. Our web site DOES NOT give all the details of our program, i.e. group rates, highlights of why Skydive Virginia is a good choice, etc. In order to receive this information you will need to request an electronic brochure, so PRIOR TO LEAVING THIS PAGE PLEASE SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM and follow the directions for delivery of either an e-brochure and/or U.S. Mail delivery of our first jump packet. Please rest assured your e-address and/or mailing address will not be shared with any other company or organization.

Learning to skydive with Skydive Virginia in Louisa, Virginia has been the choice made by thousands of people in Virginia, Maryland, DC and many others throughout the U.S. We're also fortunate every year to have many international customers that make the trip specifically to learn how to skydive with Skydive Virginia. With our student training numbers well documented, coupled with an excellent safety record in Virginia, Skydive Virginia in Louisa, Virginia teaches more people how to skydive in Virginia, Maryland & Washington, D.C. than any other skydiving center in this geographical region of the U.S.

Your first jump is an exciting decision and one which is not without its own perils. Luckily, all the dropzones that we know of in the area are USPA group members, and as such adhere to the Basic Safety Requirements (BSR's). But, as with everything else, there are differences. We hope you make your choice after speaking to a representitive of that dropzone or reading the literature you receive.

The author of this web page, having skydived at all the dropzones in the area, truly believes that Skydive Virginia! is the best dropzone to make your first jump, but you be the judge of that.

What to Wear, What to Bring

Skydive Virginia! is a full service provider. We will provide everything to make your skydive fun and as safe as we can make it. We will provide a parachute, a jumpsuit, altimeters, in fact, everything skydiving related. In addition, if it is hot out, as so often these virginia summers are, we will provide water. Anything else that makes you happy, you must bring yourself. That includes food, non-alcoholic beverages, etc.

As far as what to wear, wear what you feel most comfortable in. For most of us, that will be shorts and a t-shirt in the summer and long pants and a sweatshirt in the colder season. Wear a comfortable pair of laceable shoes. That means sandles, flip-flops, dockers, or dress shoes are not acceptable. Boots are okay if it makes you happy, but be forewarned, if it has hooks on them instead of eyeletts we will tape them over with duct tape.

As with all outdoor sports we are at the mercy of mother nature. Use common sense when outfitting yourself.

The Weather

This is probably a good time to stress the fact that we are at the mercy of mother nature. Skydiving is strictly a good weather sport. When we are falling towards the earth at speeds over 100mph, not only is it a good idea to see where you are going, it is the law (as governed by the Federal Aviation Administration, specifically Part 91 and Part 105 Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR's) (FAR's).

In the cases where weather is holding us back from making a safe skydive, we are not skydiving. There is an old flying addage that goes like this:

It is far better being on the ground wishing you were in the air than in the air wishing you were on the ground.
We subscribe fully to this addage. What this means is that we have no control over the weather. If it is not suitable for jumping, we cannot make a skydive. Now having said that, let me point out another addage that all skydivers know.
We cannot guarantee you whether or not the weather be good enough to skydive, but I can guarantee you that if you're not at the dropzone, you will not be jumping!
Weather guessing is not a perfect science. Skydive Virginia! has operated successfully many times on days where the weather was not supposed to cooperate. In many cases, the weather between where you're located and where we're located is very different. So, the general rule is if you decide to not show up due to weather conditions, that doesn't get you off the hook for your deposit.

If you're supposed to take a first jump course (FJC), a rainy day is still adequate weather for the course. If it clears up, we'll get you in the air. If it doesn't, at least you've gotten the course out of the way.

Reservation Information

Because we want to be able to handle your business at the time that best suits your needs, we will try very hard to make sure we have enough instructors, jumpmasters, ground support personnel, packers, air-to-air videographers, aircraft, parachutes, radios, radio handlers, pilots, etc. When you want to make your jump, we require that you make a reservation so that we can arrange support for your special moment.

And, because, in the past, some people have decided to make a skydive only to get cold feet the day before and neglect to call us, we must ask you to make a solid commitment to your moment, by reserving your day with a non-refundable $50 deposit for each person making a skydive.

Forms of Payment

To make your life easier, we accept many forms of payment. These include cash, money orders, travellers checks, MasterCard, or Visa. The preferred way is either cash or credit card.

If you're making a reservation over the telephone, your reservation is not confirmed until we receive payment. For this reason, it is in your own best interest to immediately confirm the dates you have blocked out for yourself with a credit card payment over the phone while you are talking to the reservation taker.

Why Learn With Skydive Virginia?

First and foremost, Skydive Virginia! is not the only place one can learn to skydive. Just as there are various health clubs one can join, restaurants to dine in, so there are other parachute centers that teach skydiving. But you can rest assured all skydiving centers are definitely not alike. To assume this would be the equivalent of thinking all coaches are the same, one sports trainer is the same as another, one music teacher is like any other, etc. I am sure you understand the analogy, but there is a stark contrast when learning to skydive versus embarking on other sporting endeavors. So why learn with Skydive Virginia? Here are just a few reasons:
